The Ohaus Starter series of electrodes provide accurate and precise measurements of pH, oxidation-reduction potential, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and temperature. They are compatible with Ohaus's AquaSearcher and Starter Meters. The Starter Dissolved Oxygen Electrodes use either galvanic or optical (luminescence) sensors. Galvanic sensors are active at all times and will degrade in storage as well as during use. They do not need to polarize (warm up)before use. Optical sensors are ideal for long-term monitoring applications due to their minimal maintenance requirements. Over a long period of time, the dye degrades and the sensing element and membrane will need to be replaced

The STDO21 uses an optical sensor that measures the interaction between oxygen and certain luminescent dyes. These sensors do not require any warm-up time or stirring while taking measurements and their measurement range is 0.000- 20.0 mg/L (ppm). The electrode is 120 mm in length, has a plastic body and a Mini-DIN connector. It is available with a 1 m or 5 m long cable. This electrode is compatible with the Starter 400D Portable meter.

The STDO11 uses galvanic sensing and is compatible with the Starter 300D portable meter.
