A legal-for-trade status, which is required for any measuring device used in commerce, is obtained by having the device evaluated through the National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP). These Ohaus Explorer-EXR™ NTEP Balances meet or exceed the Class I or II accuracy requirements in accordance with NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) Handbook 44 and Canada’s Weights and Measures Regulations.

These balances are extremely accurate and durable, and are ideal for laboratory and industrial environments. The new Explorer EXP series offers a premium weighing performance, compliance support and data traceability, and this flagship balance is crafted to meet the most demanding requirements of modern scientific research. The analytical models have capacities ranging from 120 g to 320 g, with a readability of 0.1 mg. The precision models have capacities ranging from 220 g to 12,200 g, with readability from 1 mg (0.001 g) to 10 mg (0.01 g). The precision-machined, solid metal weighing cells coupled with Ohaus’ signature AutoCal™ internal calibration system ensure accurate, reproducible measurements. Draft shields are supplied standard for models with 1 mg readability.

All Explorer-PLUS models feature a detachable terminal and base design, 3 ambient sensors (temperature, humidity and air pressure), and an optional fingerprint accessory. Analytical and precision models have a motorized leveling system with a digital-level bubble. In addition EXP models with draft shields come standard with anti-pinch auto doors, sample spotlight, built-in ionizers, and customized terminal and draft shield lights.

Each unit features seamless setup with automatic calibration, a 7-inch glass touchscreen, chemical protection, and 2 modifiable status lights. Compliance is also ensured with a 4-level user system, password protection, and 100k internal system log. The time synchronization NTP function confirms data traceability to meet Pharmaceutical regulations.

Typical application modes include basic weighing, parts counting, check counting, percent weighing, check weighing, dynamic weighing, totalization, formulation, differential, density determination, peak hold, pipette adjustment, SQC, fill weight variation, and flow rate control. Weight displays feature at least 18 weighing units, including Gram, Milligram, Carat, Newton, Ounce, Troy Ounce, Grain, Pennyweight, Momme, msg, tl H, tl S, tl T, tcl, tola, baht, and 2 custom set options. For models with a capacity greater than 1,200 g, kilograms (kg) are also available as a weighing unit, and for precision models with capacity less or equal to 1,200 g, pounds (lb) are available as a weighing unit.

The die-cast metal base, stainless steel pan, replaceable in-use cover, and thick metal housing withstand daily wear and tear, and are powered with an AC adapter (included). Communication via USB Host Type A (x2), USB Device Type B, USB Device Type C, Ethernet (RJ45), RS232, and an optional Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Dongle (accessory sold separately) Also featured are straightforward integration to Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and hassle-free data transfer with a driverless HID, for easy data input.
