- Heating Tape
Product Description
In both permanent and temporary applications, this tape heats odd lengths of glass tubes and metal pipes. Ribbon-type heating elements running lengthwise in the tape are encased in durable glass braid and are impregnated and covered with tough silicone rubber, which insulates stranded terminal leads at one end and waterproofs fittings at both ends. These Glas-Col heating tapes:
- Are ideal for use in high moisture areas.
- Are resistant to most laboratory environmental conditions.
- Easily pass a 1,000V test for electrical insulation.
This tape has an attached cord with 2-blade plug and single end termination. Temperature limit: 480°F (249 °C). For a corresponding grounded tapes see items #20750 through 20773.
Note: Power ratings are for tapes not covered by insulation when installed. If the tape is covered, the temperature should be monitored and controlled to avoid exceeding the 480 °F limit. Short, narrow tapes rated at less than 115 volts must be operated at reduced voltages, which are easily attained with a power control such as the PowrTrol or Digitrol II.
Minimum Sizes For Close Spiral Wrapping | |
Tape Width | Object Diameter |
1/4" | 3/8" or larger |
1/2" | 3/4" or larger |
1" | 1-1/2" or larger |
Tapes should not be close spiral wrapped on objects with diameters smaller than those shown above. When applying the tape to the object to be heated, wrap it snugly so that the tape is in good contact with the object. DO NOT FOLD OR WRAP THE TAPE OVER ITSELF! This will cause a hot spot in the tape that may destroy the silicone covering.
