- Amerex Halotron I Fire Extinguishers
Product Description
Tip: The Halotron I agent is no longer manufactured and the market relies on existing stock and recycled agent. The cost associated with extinguishers of this type is likely to increase significantly. We therefore recommend the Ansul CleanGuard+ (item # 09626) which uses the FK-5-1-12 agent which is less toxic, readily available, and more environmentally friendly than Halotron I.
Halotron I is ideal for important processes or key business operations such as office computer areas, data storage, telecommunications, high tech clean rooms, aircraft, air traffic control towers, robotics machinery, paint finishing applications, yachts, museums, laboratories, and radio/TV broadcast studios. Use Halotron I anywhere a clean agent extinguisher must be more effective, versatile, and user friendly than water or carbon dioxide. Includes wall hanger. These extinguishers are rated for temperatures from -40 to 120 °F (-40 to +49 °C).
Halotron I discharges as a rapidly evaporating liquid which leaves no residue. It effectively extinguishes Class A and B fires by cooling and smothering and it will not conduct electricity back to the operator. Halotron is pressurized with Argon gas and is an EPA and FAA approved agent suitable for use on Class A, B and C fires. It has a low Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 0.04 - 0.24, low Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP) of 0.014 (twelve times lower than the EPA maximum allowable ODP of 0.20) and a low Atmospheric Lifetime (3-1⁄2 to 11 years). Another clean agent alternative to Halon and Halotron I is Ansul's CleanGuard+ line of extinguishers (item # 09626).
Technical note: The 2018 edition of NFPA 99 states at 16.9.1.3 that "Clean agent or water-mist type fire extinguishers shall be provided in operating rooms" and in A.16.19.1.3. "Dry chemical fire extinguishers should not be provided in operating rooms. The clean agent extinguishers selected should have a Class A rating of some form." Finally, at 16.9.1.4 NFPA states "Clean agent-type fire extinguishers shall be provided in telecommunication entrance facilities and telecommunication equipment rooms.
