Product Description
This 2-piece grease-free sublimer has a flat bottom to enable heating on a hot plate stirrer. The condenser has a large opening for use with Dry Ice/acetone or liquid nitrogen. The connection between the flask and the condenser is made with a flat O-ring joint to ensure easy assembly/recovery without the worry of contamination. The 150 mL capacity refers to that below the bottom of the cold finger. The complete apparatus includes the condenser, flask, a CG-305-339 Viton O-ring and a CG-139-03 horseshoe clamp.
This unit is approximately 285 mm high x 215 mm wide. The cold finger has an outer diameter of 60 mm and uses a #339 O-ring and #80 clamp.
For more information on sublimers, including application tips see this Glassware Gallery entry on Sublimators.
Application Note: Some of our customers have used this sublimer to prepare samples for MALDI (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization), a mass spectrometry (MS) technique that can allow delicate biomolecules, tissue samples, large organics etc. be ionized with minimal fragmentation. The sample prep is fairly simple - a common matrix material such as 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxycinnamic acid, or alpha-cyano-4-hydroxy-cinnamic acid is sublimed onto a prepared tissue sample mounted on a glass substrate under reduced pressure. See J Am Soc Mass Spectrom. 2007 Sep; 18(9): 1646–1652. for more details as well as a picture of how a device such as the CG-3038 is used to prepare such samples.
The glass slide is attached to the bottom of the cold finger, ideally with double-sided thermally conducting tape, but this is not always necessary. The width of the cold finger is 60 mm, so cover slips fit on the bottom quite nicely. If you wish to use a standard 1" x 3" glass slide, you will need to cut it shorter (score and break) or nip the corners off so that it will fit into the lower body when assembled.
We carry heating mantles as well as dry bath block heaters that are ideal for use with this sublimer.
